Basic Blackjack Strategy

This basic blackjack strategy determines when to hit and when to stand, and also when doubling down or splitting is the correct action. Basically, this strategy is defined as the best way for a non-card counter to play his/her hand.

It is based on the player's point total and the dealer's visible card. There are slight variations in basic strategy depending on the exact house rules and the number of decks used. Playing basic strategy will reduce the house's edge to one half of a percent as compared to a two or three percent house edge over the average player.

For every possible hand, these strategies will tell you what play will give you the "best expected return".  Playing basic strategy will reduce the house's edge to one half of a percent as compared to a two or three percent house edge over the average player.

Playing the strategy does not guarantee you a win or even the advantage on some hands.
